[Edition 60] SYDNEY, Friday: A self-proclaimed soccer convert, who says the World Cup has made her fall in love with the sport, last night turned down a friend’s invitation to watch a local club game.
The enthusiastic new fan has barely missed a game of the World Cup tournament, regularly packing into crowded pubs to soak up the atmosphere and watch all the action.
The young woman proclaimed that soccer was definitely her favourite football code, and that she deemed it to be a much more skilful and exciting game than either rugby or AFL.
But when a friend from work suggested that she come along with him to watch a local NSL game, she declined the invitation, nervously citing “another engagement.”
The woman said her failure to attend the local match didn’t mean that she wasn’t still a hell-bent soccer fanatic. She told her friend that she’d love to see a local game “some time down the track.”
By way of proving her passion for the sport, the woman even listed the names of all the players she’s learnt during the World Cup. “I can name Beckham, Ronaldo and, um… oh gee, who’s that other one beginning with R?”
